Established in 1989, the Kentucky Lottery was the first lottery in the United States to be implemented as a corporation. The Kentucky Lottery Corporation’s mission is to generate state revenue while supporting Kentucky youths’ pursuit of knowledge. As a major contributor of funding for public education, the Kentucky Lottery has provided more than $3.6 billion in grants and scholarships, making one out of every seven Kentuckians a recipient of educational assistance funding. The majority of every ticket sale 63% goes directly back to players in the form of cash prizes, incentives and rewards, while the second largest portion of revenue generated 26% is invested back into the state of Kentucky. Only 6% of revenue is retained to maintain internal Lottery operations.
