Having our Wills updated was far past due. Our former Will's were written in California over 25 years ago when we had young children. It named my sister who had been deceased since 2007 as the guardian of said children.
On to the decision to update our Wills. We needed to locate an attorney that was well versed in Kentucky law and individuals that have acquired properties, and are approaching retirement. A co-worker of my husband's recommended Mr. Dotson with KY Elder Law. We called and found it easy to get an appointment for a consultation where we planned to discuss Will's, Trusts, and Power of Attorney documents.
Prior to our appointment we received a document to fill out and bring with us. Each step of the way it noted documents that we should bring with us such as prior Will's, Bank Statements, retirement account info, mortgage paperwork, etc. We completed the questionnaire that required us to do a little research but was valuable for a complete consultation. Our meeting with Mr. Dotson went extremely well. At the conclusion he advised us there was no charge for the consultation which lasted over an hour.
We signed a contract to pay $950 to cover the cost of two Power of Attorney documents, two Will's, two Health Care Surrogate forms, and two Living Will's. The only additional fee would be a $70 recording fee that would be paid to our county for recording the Power of Attorney documents.
Mr. Dotson worked with dates on our calendars to schedule a return visit to sign all the documents. The week prior to the scheduled appointment we received all the documents in draft form via the Internet to review. This made the signing day fly by without a hitch.

Those of us dealing with aging parents confront countless issues for which we are ill-prepared. I have been so very pleased with Kentucky ElderlLaw and the assistance they have provided to me in dealing with my mother's medicaid application. I'm seeing that I should have consulted them long ago for other issues, I could have saved myself a lot of suffering and heartache! I have always been able to get an appointment within a few days. Both the attorney and paralegal with whom I have dealt have always been so very patient, kind, and considerate when assisting me. It is obvious too, that they know what they are doing and have so much experience! It is no wonder that they have been voted outstanding attorneys in Louisville for so many years! Please don't be like me, get assistance early when you find yourself dealing with elder issues and for goodness sakes, use this awesome group of attorneys!

Kelly Gannott met several times with my in laws to help insure they were taking the necessary steps to maximize their assets as they age. She did a fantastic job and helped them see several places where they could better position themselves. Thanks Kelly!

Misty VanTrease and her colleagues have been a gift to not only older adults in our family (4) but also to the family and community more broadly. The care, personalized planning, and professionalism is no less than outstanding. I recommend and refer others to KY Elderlaw regularly.

The atty who did my mothers will was great. She had a revision recently and passed soon after. I called to speak to the atty who did the revision to see what I needed to do as executor. The receptionist told me she didn't have a voice mail (???) and would I like to leave a message on the business office mgr voicemail-I asked can't you take a handwritten message and she reluctantly agreed. Today is Thursday-I left that message last Friday. I'm grieving and I have to deal with this?? I'm getting another atty to help me. I won't give this place another dollar.
